The charity idea was initiated in 1992 by Sr. Zebider Zewdie and other fellows to address the vulnerability of women in the Asko Area of Addis Ababa. They provided support for women during delivery in a private clinic founded by Sr. Zebider Zewdie out of philanthropic motivation. Over time, the community’s demand increased beyond what individual efforts could handle, leading to the establishment of Mary Joy Ethiopia, and the expansion of its programs and geographic reach.
